“If you have been to NIJ and you have not been to the cafeteria, you don’t know anywhere”.
Students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism have often been heard making this statement but according to Tosin Babajide, the governor of National Diploma 2, one would think they say such things because of the impeccable service or delicious meals of the cafeteria, yes their meals are good but their service is terrible”
NIJ Cafeteria known has Esther’s pot has seen many changes happen over the years in management but has seen no change in facility; one of the reasons why students would prefer to eat outside because the atmosphere is conducive for eating and the staff are well behaved.
However, in a period that has seen many projects being undertaken by students in the school- from the renovation of the basketball court, planting of flowers, installation of solar street lights- students of Post Graduate Diploma thought it right not to leave out the Cafeteria.
It was nothing short of shocking when students came in to see the Cafeteria well re-painted on the inside, with a brand new TV and table clothes but they could not enter because a ribbon was placed just at the entrance to signify that the cafeteria was going to be commissioned again this time by the head of Department, Mass Communication, Mr Mike Osuji on behalf of the PGD students.
“This is the first time I would be asked to commission any project. Today history has been made”, Osuji remarked
He thanked the graduating PGD students for the execution of the project and prayed that their purse would be replenished.
Nevertheless, students are anticipating that with this new development comes the change they have been seeking for with regards to the Customer care service of Esther’s pot.
