Movies You Should Be Watching In 2017

Game of Thrones and Power? Everyone knows about those. These eleven series you probably haven’t watched yet will give you a good enough reason to be a couch potato during the weekend, or during the weekdays too if that’s more your style. All of them came out in either 2016 or 2017. Enjoy.

1. Ozark.

This series is like Breaking Bad on steroids. If you loved Breaking Bad, you will enjoy Ozark so much. Also, if Breaking Bad bored you, you’ll still be in for a treat here because Ozark has the tempo going from the beginning. I wouldn’t like to dish out many spoilers on it but the story is basically about a financial adviser who drags his family from Chicago to a place known as Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five years to appease a drug boss.

2. Daytime Divas.

Girls will love this more than guys. Daytime Divas showcases a backstage world filled with power struggles, diva fits, and steamy affairs. The plot revolves around Maxine, Mo, Heather, Kibby, and Nina who are hosts of a fictional show known as ‘The Lunch Hour.’ The twists and turns in their lives will keep you glued.

3. Mad Dogs (US Version).

This spectacular TV series came out last year but it’s been under the radar and not many people know about it. It is a remake of the UK version of Mad Dogs which aired several years ago. Nevertheless, I have to salute the writers who came up with the script. The plot twists are just too good. Four guys head on vacation to visit a longtime friend, whose success has allowed him to buy a beachfront villa and enjoy a laid-back lifestyle but the group holiday quickly turns into a collective nightmare of murder and run-ins with corrupt cops as well as drug dealers.

4. The Bold Type.

Another perfect girl drama. Also recommended for people who are intrigued the office culture. The show has the theme of romance and work. Mixing business with pleasure. It’s a glimpse into the outrageous lives and loves of those responsible for a global women’s magazine. Their struggles are about finding love, managing friendships and getting heart broken.

5. El Chapo.

Love Narcos? Love stories about notorious drug dealers? Don’t mind subtitles? You should have watched this by now. Just like Narcos, it’s produced by Netflix. it centers around the life of famous Mexican drug lord El Chapo, right from when he was a kid to how he grew up to be the biggest drug dealer in the world.

6. Claws.

It seems I am the Santa Clause for ladies today. I come bearing lots of gifts. That’s right. This is another series that ladies will deeply enjoy. Not just ladies, but guys who enjoy seeing the drama in women’s lives too (like me). It is a sharp, thrilling look at a nail salon run by Niecy Nash, who juggles manicures, money laundering, and murder. The powerhouse cast includes The Good Wife’s Carrie Preston, Scrubs’ Judy Reyes and Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris.

7. Shooter.

If you already watch it, you love it, and if you don’t watch it, you’re just missing out.  Shooter is in its second season now. It’s a conspiracy thriller that follows the journey of Bob Lee Swagger, a highly-decorated veteran who is coaxed back into action to prevent a plot to kill the President but then ends up getting framed for it.

8. Underground.

It’s a slave drama just like ‘Roots’ and guess who is the executive producer? John Legend. Underground follows a group of slaves planning their escape from a Georgia plantation, making a 600-mile journey to freedom. This show doesn’t hold back and is gripping, intense, and brilliant.

9. American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story.

Do you love money and women? I present this gem to you. American Playboy is about the life of Hugh Hefner, the multi-millionaire founder of the Playboy empire. You will envy his life of riches and bedding hundreds of women but you will also be inspired by his struggles and business acumen.

10. Notorious.

This series centers on betrayals, lies and the symbiotic relationship between charismatic lawyer Jake Gregorian (Daniel Sunjata) and powerhouse TV producer Julia George (Piper Perabo), as they attempt to control the media, the justice system and ultimately each other.

11. Riverdale.

At the outset, someone has been murdered and it’s unclear who is responsible. Archie is still a teen torn between two girls and he has no idea about how messy things are about to get. The show is a mix of thriller and romance. The first season is over so you can easily jump on board.
