Cameroon and Australia ended their Group B contest in the 2017 Confederations Cup Thursday evening at the Krestovsky Stadium Saint Petersburg in a 1-1 draw, Completesportsnigria.com reports.
Both sides lost their opening games in the tournament and it was also their first meeting at the senior level.
Cameroon were defeated 2-0 by Chile while Australia were pipped 3-2 by a youthful German team without most first team players present in Russia.
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa scored for the African champions while Mark Miligan grabbed the equaliser for the Aussies.
Australia's Alex Gersbach's freekick in the 21st minute was met by Tomi Juric, but Fabrice Ondoa showed good awareness and came off his line to thwart the move.
Cameroon however broke the deadlock just before the half time break when Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui found Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa inside the Australian box who spotted goalkeeper Mathew Ryan off his line and chipped the ball into the net with a cheeky lob.
Juric was afforded space inside the box after collecting a pass two minutes after the break but the chance was wasted as his shot went harmlessly over the crossbar.
Ernest Mabouka brought down his opponent down inside the box, referee Milorad Mazic had a clear sight of it and blew his whistle for a penalty. Australia then equalised from the ensuing penalty spot through captain Mark Milligan in the 60th minute giving the goalkeeper no chance, sending the ball into the bottom left corner.
Vincent Aboubakar spurned a couple of late chances for Cameroon in the game.
