Just A Day

This is a poem written in dedication to children of our world; children whose hopes of living the good life have been blighted by war and terrorism, children who have been separated from their homelands, from their loved ones, some, with no identity; deeply malnourished, suffering in refugee camps
constantly seeking protection as we hear on radio and see on TV;  children who would give everything to just live a normal life, go to school and be cared for just as they deserve.

JUST A DAY

By Boluwatife Ezekiel Olaleye

I want for them, just a day
When living couldn't be more fun
With no more drinking of contaminated water
And always on the run for survival.

I want for them, just a day
A smile with tears no more
Seeing faces creased in laughter
With each day, a new surprise.

I want for them, just a day
to be fed in their bellies and minds
With food and education abundant
So they won't be left behind.

I want for them, just a day
A roof over their tiny, precious heads
No sleeping on cold soil
But warmly covered in a bed.

I want for them, just a day
Of protection from immunisation's prick
To save more from dying prematurely
And many others from falling Ill.

I want for them, a time
When we can a live as one
And children live, as children should
Dancing freely and happily in the sun.
