CHECK OUT THESE INTERESTING MAKE-UP MYTHS

We are always hearing different things when it comes to how we should use our skincare products and apply our makeup. We bust some common makeup and skincare myths so that you can make sure your skin looks and feels its best 24/7.

Myth #1: Older women can’t wear shimmery makeup

We should choose makeup based not on our age but on what accentuates our skin. Shimmery makeup has come a long way over the years and is much more subtle these days. It can look gorgeous on young as well as mature skin.

Myth #2: A facial scrub will remove makeup and cleanse the face

Not only do facial scrubs not work as effectively at removing makeup as proper makeup remover does, they can also damage skin. Instead, remove your makeup thoroughly before washing using a less abrasive cleanser.

Myth #3: Coconut is an effective moisturiser that slows down ageing

Coconut oil might be great for many things, but using it as a moisturiser is not one of them. Not only does it not contain any active ingredients that have been proven to slow down the ageing process, it also doesn’t always offer the best hydration.

Myth #4: Wearing makeup every day is bad for your skin

While too much makeup can take a toll on skin, wearing normal makeup daily isn’t bad for skin, provided that you use products that are suited to your skin and you remove it before going to bed each night.

Myth #5: Natural skincare products are better than chemical ones

Many people think that natural is better, but this is not always the case when it comes to skincare. Many natural products are not properly regulated, expire quite quickly and contain essential oils that can trigger allergic reactions.

Myth #6: Sleeping with your makeup on can cause your skin to age faster

Wrinkles are caused by genetic and environmental factors such as sun exposure, dehydration and your lifestyle. But makeup is not one of those factors. Sleeping with it on can lead to breakouts, but not wrinkles.

Myth #7: The right type of products can erase wrinkles

Unfortunately this is untrue, because if this were the case cosmetic surgeons would go out of business. While there are many products on the market that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, none are able to take them away completely.

Myth #8: Mineral makeup is safer because minerals are good for you

All makeup is made from minerals and just because makeup contains minerals doesn’t mean it doesn’t contain a whole host of other potentially harmful ingredients. Pick what works for your skin rather than falling for marketing ploys.
